JAN WHEELER

Notable Canadian artist Jan Wheeler’s oil paintings exude an effortless lightness while embodying and radiating undeniable sophistication and depth.

During her extended hiking and canoeing excursions, Wheeler immerses herself in the wilderness to gather inspiration for her work, preserving the essence of her journeys through sketches, notes on color, photography, impressions, and memories.

While Wheeler’s style reflects the influence of the iconic Group of Seven, her work remains distinctly original, reimagining their shared muse—the rugged beauty of the Canadian landscape—through a contemporary lens.

Her paintings feature illuminated, cubist-inspired clouds, resembling stained-glass skies, dancing over reflective waters. A natural rhythm builds and crescendos into an intense choreography of wind, light, shape, tone, and a radiant emotional quality.

Initially trained as a graphic designer at Seneca College, Wheeler furthered her artistic education at London’s Byam Shaw School of Art, the Lorenzo de’ Medici School of Art in Florence, and through specialized calligraphy studies in Sendai, Japan. Her travels across Europe, Saudi Arabia, and North America have further enriched the diverse blend of disciplines that define her distinctive style.

Wheeler’s award-winning paintings have been exhibited internationally and are held in corporate and private collections worldwide, establishing her as a celebrated voice in contemporary Canadian art.
