VICKY TALWAR
Vicky Talwar is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, mixed media, performance, and installation. Drawing from her lived experience as a Hindu Canadian, she explores themes of identity, cultural hybridity, displacement, and memory. Her practice is a deeply personal dialogue between the rich heritage of South Asian culture and the diverse, evolving landscape of Canada, resulting in artwork that is both introspective and universally resonant.
Talwar views her canvas as a sacred space where memories, teachings, and experiences converge. Using a diverse palette and varied mediums—including painting, mixed media, and sound installations—she creates immersive works that transcend aesthetics to evoke deeper emotional and spiritual connections. Her intuitive approach blends spontaneity with deliberate technique, mirroring her own journey of self-exploration.
Talwar holds a BFA and MFA in Art, Media, & Design from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU), as well as a Bachelor of Education from York University. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in Toronto, Canmore, Los Angeles, New York, and the United Kingdom, among others. Her solo thesis exhibition, Inward Identities, was presented at Latcham Arts Centre, and she has recently held solo exhibitions at the Aurora Cultural Centre, Station Gallery, and Robert Langen Gallery. In 2017, she was awarded the Juror’s Award for the Annual Juried Exhibition by Latcham Art Centre. Her work has also been acquired by the Global Affairs Canada Visual Art Collection for international display, as well as by the Royal Victoria Hospital and Capital One Office in Toronto.
Through her art, Talwar invites viewers into a shared journey of discovery, where personal narratives intersect with collective experiences, fostering deeper connections and a celebration of cultural fluidity.
