SARAH CARLSON
Sarah Carlson is a Canadian visual artist specializing in landscape painting that explore interconnected ecosystems, biophilic tendencies, and the delicate balance of nature.
Employing unexpected colour combinations, striking neon accents, and expressive impasto techniques, Carlson’s intuitive and fluid paintings reveal invisible movements and relationships within the natural world.
In Carlson’s work, trees, leaves, water, and wind are not merely static forms captured on canvas, but dynamic, living entities engaged in an ongoing dialogue, dramatized by change and growth.
Her multidisciplinary practice extends beyond painting to include murals, video, performance, and installation. Originally trained in cinematography, Carlson draws upon her expertise in light, composition, and colour to create dynamic works that feel both timeless and contemporary.
Carlson studied at York University, the University of Toronto, and OCAD U, and has been awarded artist residencies at the Canadian Wilderness Artist Residency (Yukon), Algonquin Provincial Park, Artscape Gibraltar Point (Toronto), and Can Serrat International Art Centre (Barcelona, Spain). Additionally, she founded a female-led outdoor adventure media company, producing tourism films and 11 environmentally focused documentaries.
Carlson lives with her family in Burlington, ON where she continues to paint, lead community-oriented projects and adventure into the wildness.
