HELEN GRACE
AGALAWATTE

Helen Grace Agalawatte is self-taught artist working primarily in acrylic to create her expressive pieces. Growing up in Scotland Agalawatte later moved to Ontario- a landscape has become her central inspiration. Her practice is guided by curiosity and a love of experimentation, often using palette knives, scrapers, and even unconventional tools like a bowl scraper to capture the nuance of her experiences in nature.

Her paintings are inspired by hiking and kayaking trips where she gathers photographs and sketches to bring back to her studio. Working intuitively, she builds up layers of vibrant underpainting, scraping and sanding to keep each piece fresh and alive. With saturated colours and bold, textural marks, her work reflects the unpredictable beauty of lakes, rocks, and trees. Agalawatte;s award-winning paintings are held in private collections across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
