SUSAN R. WOOD
Susan Wood is an emerging multidisciplinary artist based in Aurora, Ontario, whose practice spans textile art, drawing, painting, and material exploration. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from OCAD University in 2024 and holds an MSW and an Honours BA in Psychology.
At the core of Wood’s practice is a deep engagement with materials and process. She describes herself as a magpie (or a collector of useless things) and am maker, driven by the belief that art has an immense capacity to communicate important truths.
Through the act of creating, materials and methods reveal their meaning, often in unexpected ways. Wood works fluidly across mediums, combining traditional techniques with foraged natural materials and salvaged objects, each igniting the artist’s imagination. Observation, experimentation, and reflection shape her approach, allowing the work itself to guide her toward what it needs to express.
Wood’s background as a professional social worker has profoundly influenced her artistic exploration. The personal stories shared with her by children and families continue to inform her work, shaping her investigation into themes of memory, experience, transformation, healing, and renewal. By merging psychological insight with material exploration, her practice becomes a space where personal and collective narratives are woven together, revealing layered and evolving meanings.
